Work-Life Balance

It seems like there’s never enough time.

From the calls, emails, and deadlines, it feels like there’s barely a chance to breathe.

You want to take time to collect your thoughts, but there’s always something else on the list that must get done.

As each day passes, your work pulls you in tighter and tighter, and it doesn’t show any signs of letting go.

You’ve worked hard to get here.

As a black professional woman, it has been ingrained in you that you must work twice as hard to get ahead and be successful.

A part of you feels obligated to put your all into your work because you know how much it took to get to your current position.

And over the years, you’ve perfected the art of adapting and being persistent and resilient.

But at what cost?

Social life has faded.

Juggling your work’s demands and giving proper energy to your social life can get difficult after a while.

Eventually, you drift away from connecting with others and convince yourself that it’s ok because “you had work to do.”

It’s not intentional, but the days of going out to have a drink and laugh with friends have slimmed down.

Now, the days are just passing by you with no change in sight.

Self-care is at the bottom of the list.

A nice massage, a walk in the park, reading a captivating book, or even an entire vacation could do wonders for you right now.

But it’s hard to find time to squeeze any of that into your busy schedule, especially regularly.

You know you need to rejuvenate, but the thought keeps getting pushed further and further to the back of your mind.

A new relationship seems like a distant dream.

If you barely have time for yourself, how could you possibly have time for someone else?

It’s normal to want someone with whom to share your highs and lows.

But new relationships take a lot of time, energy, and commitment to work, and those requirements can seem scarce.

As a result, you tell yourself you’ll get to it, eventually. But at the same time, you feel like the opportunity to have the relationship you want is getting more out of reach. This thought discourages you even more.
